Accounts assistant

Village Underground is looking for an enthusiastic bookkeeper to work with the Group Management Accountant, to manage the day-to-day business accounting and maximise the financial efficiency of the organisation.
The right candidate will understand that up-to-date and accurate financial information is both central and critical to the fine tuning & balancing required in a self-financed arts organisation business model.

Village Underground is a multidisciplinary venue presenting live music gigs and club nights alongside theatre, visual arts and much more. Above the venue, four recycled Jubilee line trains and shipping containers make up the creative workspaces of Village Underground. Up to 30 artists, playwrights, filmmakers, architects, photographers, producers and startups working side-by-side in a creative community. Village Underground is proud to be an independent arts centre, championing a self-sustaining business model by allocating a set number of calendar dates to Commercial and Private Hire events. The revenue generated from these important events allows Village Underground to fund its diverse schedule of arts programming - enabling us to take creative risks in the pursuit of presenting emerging and legendary cultural offerings, without relying on funding for the arts.

Daily/weekly financial administration:
Reconciling nightly drop sheets
Reconciling all bank accounts
Reconciling and posting petty cash account
Posting invoices
Processing weekly supplier payments
Filing and admin
Answering queries from suppliers and customers

Monthly/quarterly financial administration:
Assist the Group Management Accountant in producing the monthly management accounts
Bar tabs - monthly review of spend against target

A minimum of 1 year working in a similar role
Effective communication skills
Excellent attention to detail
High degree of computer literacy – able to use word­ processing, database, spreadsheet, Internet
and emails accurately and confidently
Experience of using Xero accounting software for accounting would be advantageous
Ability to work well in a small team and manage own time
Experience working within the arts sector would be advantageous
