Hall - Standing
Anna Meredith announces a full UK tour for February 2020, with her headline show at EartH’s Hall, following the release of her eagerly anticipated second studio album FIBS on October 25 via Moshi Moshi.
Arriving three and a half years on from the release of her Scottish Album of the Year Award-winning debut studio album Varmints, FIBS is 45 minutes of technicolour maximalism. It is an overhauled and updated version of the composer’s sound world involving, in places, a literal retooling that has seen Meredith chuck out her old MIDI patches and combine her unique compositional voice with brand-new instruments, both acoustic and electronic, and a writing process that’s more intense than she’s ever known.
It’s hard not to adore Meredith, who’s teased the announce of her second album with an abundance of selfie videos (including one where she literally strikes a mini gong, check out her Twitter for lols); she pretty much made it to National Treasure status after having opened the Proms last year, more proof being that she’s just been awarded an MBE. The Financial Times called her live performance “meaty and flavoursome,” concluding, “it went where the meek fear to tread.” More praise from the press below:
“One of the most innovative minds in modern British music ” - Pitchfork
“Meredith and her band excel at...surprising you into hearing classical instruments anew” - The Guardian
“Uncategorisable electronic musician and composer” - Wire
“Meredith is a classically trained beatsmith who uses her highbrow skillset to experimental ends with thrilling results” - Diva
