Cut A Shine Present: Burns Night 2019
Ceilidh and Barn Dance Band bring Burns Night to EartH! Expect neeps, tatties, and plenty of single malt whisky to warm the cockles throughout this late winter knees-up.
The night will be split into two halves. In the first half, after a brief workshop on some basic moves, we will dance proper Scottish dances to the Cut A Shine live band. The second half sees us venture into uncharted territory as we unleash our new show, Remix Reeling – traditional ceilidh dances but set to remixed bass and EDM. Expect to dance Strip The Willow, The Gay Gordons, The Canadian Barn Dance, Dashing White Sargeant amongst many more…
Food and Drink: We've recruited a top chef to plate up the finest Haggis Neeps and Tatties this side of the border with the utmost efficiency and expertise, so no waiting around! This is not a sit down Burns Supper, and traditional food will be available buffet style. The venue has 3 bars, all stocking some mighty single malts.
Traditions: We will pause during the night for the traditional toasts to the Haggis, and toasts to one and all at the dance! This night will respect traditions but will be presented in a non-heteronormative way, and all and everyone is welcome to attend our dance.
Cut A Shine is a collective of musicians, dancers and callers who have been spreading their brand of rip roaring hoedown and barn dance music across the UK for over ten years. Conceived in the squat and warehouse parties of London, the band host square dances and ceilidh dances at venues across the capital, whilst spending the summer months darting from festival to festival raising a dust bowl of dance where ever they go. The line up includes Fiddle, Banjo, Guitar, Mandolin and Double bass – the classic “Bluegrass” line up. The show is augmented with flat foot dancers, eccentric and energetic dance callers, and singers, for a all round hoedown experience. The band have played everywhere from 90th birthday parties to the Mumford and Sons’ Album Launch (yes, that album), as well as pretty much every decent UK festival there is: from Glastonbury to Secret Garden Party, Bestival to Green Man, Wilderness and Love Box.
The band now host their own festival in the mountains of Mid Wales called Fire in the Mountain, and regularly promote and organise venue shows for the best of visiting Appalachian and Bluegrass musicians from the USA.
