EartH Kitchen welcomes analogue producer and audiophile partyman Leonidas this Saturday, March 30th.
The man behind Earth Kitchen’s vintage Tannoy sound system (aka lovetoparty) acquired the very same system we’re proud to use today, during the late naughties, with the express purpose of hosting invitation-only, intimate, audiophile 24-hour house parties in his large, shared Victorian “Belle Villa” home in Hackney Downs. The list of guests at these parties reads like a “who’s who” of East London’s audiophile party community.
As you might expect of someone who has been collecting records for almost 30 years, Leonidas’s music spans many genres and is also characterised by authenticity and vitality born out of his love and respect for the artist and music as well as the listener and dancer. The breadth of his musical sensitivity is reflected in his guest slots at some of London’s most respected venues and underground parties: Beauty and the Beat, Brilliant Corners, Spiritland, Lion & Lamb, 4 to the Floor and Servant Jazz Quarters.
As a producer, Leonidas debuted with “Sequential EP” in 2012 on his friend Kay Suzuki’s round in motion label, to acclaim from a broad range of musicians and DJs, from Manuel Gottsching to Theo Parrish and DJ Harvey, who liked “Interstellar Vibrations” so much that he’s including it in his forthcoming “The Sound Of Mercury Rising” vinyl compilation. Leonidas subsequently collaborated on 2 further vinyl EPs (Synqlock Vol I & II) with Kay Suzuki, to wide acclaim.
His collaborations with close friend and Edinburgh label owner Hobbes have yielded 3 vinyl EPs (including Machines, Tapes & Electronic Setups and Mo Machines), while their 3rd (The Rags of Time EP) spawned the underground Balearic disco classic “Web of Intrigue” - voted no 1 in Bill Brewster’s Furtive top 50 original tracks of 2017 DJ poll.
These productions have resulted in several remix requests, with 3 forthcoming remixes on Stupid Human Records, Innsbruck’s Mont Lake Records (where he recently did a 5hr B2B set with DJ/producer Ka§par at underground techno club Tante Emma) and Portuguese house label Percebes. Another long term project, Twonk & Friends: “L’Orient” is about to receive a digital release on Balearic label eclectics.
Leonidas is currently writing and producing his debut album with his partner Joanna on vocals while continuing to work and collaborate on several remixes and forthcoming releases. We look forward to him taking us on a magical musical journey.
