Emma-Jean Thackray

The multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, radio host and DJ was born and raised in Yorkshire, but today calls south-east London’s Catford home. As one of the go-to artists of the city’s new jazz scene, Emma-Jean has collaborated with Nubya Garcia, Ezra Collective, Makaya McCraven, Junius Paul and Angel Bat Dawid, and earlier this month earned a nomination for Best Jazz Act at the MOBO awards. Yellow is her debut album, full of soothing, fresh and enthralling tracks, and described by Pitchfork as “so deliciously circuitous that it develops its own gravitational pull”.ds.
