Roxanne Tataei
South-London musician Roxanne Tataei self-released her sophomore album, Full Moon in Aries, in September 2018. Aptly titled, it marks the independent return of this neo-operatic wonder. A blend of trip-hop, soul, alt-rock and psychedelic sounds, grounded in narcotic vocals and a deeply abiding sense of spirituality, Full Moon in Aries is “Tataei’s own affirmation…’ (Gal Dem Magazine). Entirely self-directed and self-funded, this is Roxanne more expressive, exploratory – and emancipated – than ever before.
Full Moon In Aries has been four years in the making, and the eclectic, evocative sound Roxanne embodies in it showcases this labour of love distinctly. The album was co-produced by talented mainstay Patrice (Ceelo Green, Cody Chesnutt), Nick Trepka (Emmy the Great) & Grammy award winning Al Shux (Kendrick Lamar, Kelela, Alicia Keys), and features collaborations with the inimitable Shabaka Hutchings and soul singer Liam Bailey.
The past few years have seen Roxanne working on unique projects including the Mica Levi & Dean Blunt opera Inna (ICA, London, 2017) and a special performance/installation with ongoing collaborator Maiye, commissioned for the V&A Museum in collaboration with i-D Magazine (2018). In the coming months Tataei will be releasing more album visuals, tracks with avant-garde experimentalists Dean Blunt (‘Dum Draco’/Muggy Vol.1) and NTS maverick Lord Tusk (Mos Def), and staging one-off live performances.
